Career in Action IV | 03-09 June 2024 | Pedoulas, Cyprus | Youth Exchange

Project Summary

The “Career In Action Part IV” youth exchange project addressed the pressing issue of youth unemployment, which has become a critical challenge across Europe, including Cyprus. With many young people struggling to find employment in their chosen fields, the project aimed to combat the risk of youth disengagement and ensure they remain motivated to develop personal and professional skills. Through non-formal and informal educational methods, participants were provided with the tools and skills necessary to enhance their employability and career prospects.

The project emphasized practical training and participatory learning, focusing on bridging the gap between existing skills and the professions available in the current job market. Participants were given the opportunity to gain valuable insights into various professions, refine their personal skills, and learn effective strategies for self-promotion in the workforce. Additionally, they explored entrepreneurial ideas and career planning to help them become more competitive in the labor market.

Objectives of the Project

Bridge the Skills Gap: Enhance the knowledge of youth, especially those from remote or disadvantaged backgrounds, about professions and the skills required to succeed in the modern workforce.

Encourage Innovation: Promote research, innovation, and development to inspire young people to explore new career paths and entrepreneurial ventures.

Career Alignment: Assist youth in identifying jobs that align with their personal interests and strengths, increasing their career satisfaction and long-term success.

Boost Employability: Increase participants’ self-confidence and employability by providing them with the skills necessary to stand out in the labor market.

Personal Promotion Tools: Raise awareness about the tools and strategies available for effective personal promotion, including CV writing, cover letters, and interview techniques.

Promote Inclusion: Encourage the inclusion of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, including newly arrived migrants, in the labor market.

Efficient Career Planning: Teach participants how to set career goals and develop actionable plans to achieve them, empowering them to take charge of their professional future.

Project Activities and Impact

The project was designed to be highly interactive, allowing participants to actively engage in workshops, role-playing activities, and group discussions. These sessions focused on practical tools for career development, such as preparing CVs, writing cover letters, mastering job interviews, and identifying personal strengths that align with suitable careers. The emphasis on personal development was complemented by entrepreneurial workshops that encouraged participants to think creatively about their future careers and explore self-employment opportunities.

Participants also had the opportunity to share their experiences and ideas, promoting peer learning and fostering a sense of community among youth facing similar challenges. Through these activities, participants not only gained valuable career skills but also enhanced their confidence, increasing their readiness to enter the workforce.
